小さな黄色い花が運ぶ、春のメッセージ
3月8日は「国際女性デー」でした。
世界中で、女性の勇気や活躍をたたえ、いまの社会にある格差や課題について考える大切な日です。日本でも近年よく耳にするようになり、“ミモザの日”として親しまれています。
この日に贈られる黄色いミモザには、実は深い由来があります。
第二次世界大戦後のイタリアで、女性たちの連帯を示すためにミモザを贈り合ったことがはじまりだと言われています。ふんわり丸い花と太陽のような明るい黄色は、女性の強さと優しさの象徴として選ばれました。
ミモザの花言葉は「感謝」「友情」「思いやり」。
日ごろのありがとうを、さりげなく伝えられる花でもあります。
今年も、ダイバーシティ推進室に素敵なミモザが届きました。
とある職員さんのお庭で育ったミモザを、おすそ分けいただいたものです。
リースやスワッグにして飾ってみると、完成したばかりの「まちのイバダイ2026」のチラシに描かれたモチーフともよく調和し、やさしい黄色が空間に春のあたたかさを広げてくれました。
国際女性デーにミモザを贈ることは、相手をたたえるだけでなく、
「あなたの存在を大切に思っています」という静かなメッセージを添える行為なのかもしれません。
その小さな花に託された想いは、私たちダイバーシティ推進室が大切にしている願いとも重なります。
春の光のように、やわらかな気持ちをふわりと届けられる存在でありたい――。
そんな想いを、これからもみなさまへお届けしていきたいと思います。
「まちのイバダイ2026」でも、さまざまな想いを込めた企画を準備しています。

A Deep Breath at the Window to the World
A Spring Message Carried by Small Yellow Blossoms
March 8 marked International Women’s Day—
a day to honor the courage and achievements of women around the world, and to reflect on the inequalities and challenges that still remain in our society. In Japan, the day has become increasingly familiar in recent years and is affectionately known as “Mimosa Day.”
The yellow mimosa given on this day carries a story of its own.
After World War II, women in Italy began exchanging mimosa flowers as a symbol of solidarity. Their soft, round blossoms and bright, sunlike color came to represent both the strength and the gentleness of women. The mimosa’s meanings—gratitude, friendship, and thoughtfulness—make it a lovely way to express a quiet, everyday “thank you.”
This year, beautiful mimosa flowers once again arrived at the Office of Equality and Diversity.
They were lovingly grown in the garden of one of our staff members and kindly shared with us. When arranged into a wreath or swag, the flowers paired beautifully with the motifs featured in the newly completed “Machi no Ibadai 2026” brochure. Their gentle yellow hue filled the room with the warmth and promise of spring.
Giving mimosa on International Women’s Day is not only a gesture of appreciation—
it may also be a quiet way of saying, “Your presence is cherished.”
The sentiments held by these small blossoms resonate deeply with the hopes we carry in the Office of Equality and Diversity. Like spring sunlight, we hope to offer warmth that softly reaches the hearts of those around us. And we will continue to share these gentle feelings with everyone.
We are also preparing heartfelt programs for Machi no Ibadai 2026.
We would be delighted if you would visit and feel the spirit behind our message, along with the first signs of spring.
