A Deep Breath at the Window to the World
“Um, where should I start?” (Udon, Cambodia)
For those familiar with the area, it’s just another everyday scene.
But for first-time visitors, it might be a sight that makes you do a double-take.
In Cambodia, minibuses like these play a vital role as a means of transportation connecting different regions. Especially on trips from cities to rural areas, these vehicles are packed to the brim with both people and luggage.
By the way, look at the motorcycle sticking out from the back of the vehicle in this photo.
At first glance, you might wonder, “Are they really loading it there?” but there’s actually a good reason for it. By loading the motorcycle this way, they can even use the motorcycle’s seat as an extra passenger seat. In other words, it’s a clever way to free up even a little space inside the vehicle so they can carry even more people.
This approach to making the most of limited space gives me a sense of resilience and practical wisdom.
Scenes like this, encountered while traveling, instantly reveal a country’s way of life and values.
There are some safety concerns, so please don’t try this at home.
Have a great weekend.
