記録より記憶～上海ディズニーランドにて～
６月某日、上海。宿泊先のホテルから外に出た瞬間、じっとりと重い空気が全身を包み込んだ。上海の湿気は手強い。ホテルを出た時点で、前髪はすでに自由を手にしていた。気を取り直して、中国版夢の国を目指す。
今回一番のお目当ては、世界のディズニーリゾートの中でも上海にしか存在しないという、「ズートピア」エリアだ。マップを見ると、最も長い待機時間を記録しているのはアトラクションではなく主人公たちとのグリーティングだった。他にも恐ろしい待機時間を示している場所はグリーティングコーナーばかりである。近年の「推し活」文化の広がりと、キャラクターとの接触イベントの人気は切り離せない関係にあるのだろう。時代の変化に驚きながら、お目当てのアトラクションに向かった。
待機列に並んでいる間も、作品の世界観を忠実に再現した街並みが心を躍らせてくれる。ナレーションは当然中国語で、内容を理解することはできなかった。しかし、聞き慣れた日本語版や英語版と比べながら耳を傾けるのもまた面白い。同じキャラクターでも、声が変わるだけで受ける印象が少しずつ異なるのだ。
アトラクションに乗り込むと瞬く間に作品の世界へ飲み込まれ、気づけばアトラクションは終了していた。出口付近に展示されたライドフォトには、周りの来場客と同じようにライド中もスマートフォンを構えた己の姿が写っていた。イベントや旅行になると、写真や映像を撮ることに集中するよりも、目の前の光景を肉眼に焼き付けた方が思い出には残るだろうと薄々感じているのに、ついカメラを作動してしまう。思い出に対する貧乏性とでも言うべきか。
すっかり日が暮れる頃には待ち時間も短くなっていた。そこで私は、もう一度ズートピアに乗ることにした。ただし今度はスマートフォンをしまったまま。
両手を空け、ゆったりとした気持ちでライドに乗り込む。すると不思議なことに、同じアトラクションなのに一回目よりも時間の流れがゆっくり感じられた。細かな装飾やキャラクターの表情にも目が向き、作品の世界により深く没入できた気がする。
私たちは旅先で、美しい景色や楽しい体験を記録しようと必死になる。しかし、その瞬間にしか見られない景色は、本来カメラ越しではなく自分の目で見るためのものなのかもしれない。上海ディズニーランドでの一日は、世界的なテーマパークの違いや中国の熱気を知る機会であると同時に、「思い出を残すこと」と「今を味わうこと」のバランスについて考えさせられる旅でもあった。

A Deep Breath at the Window to the World
Memory Over Records: A Day at Shanghai Disneyland
One day in June, Shanghai. The city's humidity was a formidable opponent. By the time I stepped out of the hotel, my carefully styled bangs had already claimed their freedom. Shaking it off, I set out for China's version of the Magic Kingdom.
The place I was most excited to visit was the Zootopia area, which exists only at Shanghai Disney Resort among all Disney resorts in the world. Looking at the park map, I noticed that the longest wait time was not for an attraction, but for character greetings with the film's main characters. In fact, the locations with the most intimidating wait times were almost all greeting spots. The growing popularity of Japan's oshi-katsu culture—supporting and interacting with one's favorite characters or celebrities—seems closely connected to the popularity of these meet-and-greet experiences. Surprised by this cultural shift, I made my way to the attraction I had been looking forward to most.
Even while waiting in line, the faithfully recreated streets of the film's world kept my excitement alive. Naturally, all the narration was in Chinese, so I could not fully understand what was being said. However, it was interesting to compare the voices with the Japanese and English versions I was familiar with. Even the same character can leave a slightly different impression depending on the language and voice actor.
Once I boarded the attraction, I was instantly drawn into the world of Zootopia. Before I knew it, the ride was over. Near the exit, I spotted the ride photo display. There I was, just like many of the other guests, holding up my smartphone during the ride. Whenever I travel or attend special events, I often feel that experiencing a moment with my own eyes would leave a stronger memory than focusing on taking photos or videos. Yet, despite knowing this, I always find myself reaching for my camera. Perhaps it is a kind of greed when it comes to preserving memories.
By the time the sun had set, the wait times had become much shorter. So I decided to ride Zootopia again—this time with my smartphone tucked away.
With both hands free and my mind at ease, I boarded the ride once more. Strangely, although it was exactly the same attraction, time seemed to pass more slowly than it had during my first ride. I noticed details in the decorations and expressions on the characters that I had missed before, and I felt more deeply immersed in the world of the story.
When we travel, we often become obsessed with recording beautiful scenery and memorable experiences. Yet perhaps some sights are meant to be seen not through a camera lens, but with our own eyes in that fleeting moment. My day at Shanghai Disneyland was not only an opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of a world-famous theme park and the energy of China, but also a chance to reflect on the balance between preserving memories and fully living in the present.
