カリフォルニアの青い空
指導教員の恩師の後押しのおかげで、2013年、博士後期課程１年生のときに、Professor Craig Hawker（UCSB）のもとで、研究滞在をさせていただく機会を得た。このときの同僚の多くは、現在、アメリカで教授として活躍している。
その約10年後、2024年に、TRiSTARフェローとして、また、国際共同研究加速基金研究者（国際共同研究加速基金の支援を受ける研究者）として、再度、Professor Craig Hawkerのもとで、研究滞在をさせていただく機会を得た。ここで、新たに、多くの若手研究者と出会うことができた。
2024年の滞在中に、会話をするなかで、目の前にいる若手研究者は、かつてのUCSBでの同僚の研究室出身であることに気がついた。
人のつながりの大切さ、面白さに気がついた瞬間であった。
カリフォルニアの澄んだ青空、UCSBの最先端の研究環境はもちろん魅力的であるが、
人のつながりの大切さ、面白さを気づかせてくれる場所である点で、私にとって魅力的である。

A Deep Breath at the Window to the World
It Never Rains In Southern California
With the encouragement of my supervisor’s mentor, I was given the opportunity in 2013, during the first year of my doctoral program, to undertake a research stay in the laboratory of Professor Craig Hawker at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Many of my colleagues from that time have since gone on to become professors.
Approximately ten years later, in 2024, as a TRiSTAR Fellow and also as a JSPS Scientist for Joint International Research supported by the Grant for the Promotion of International Joint Research, I was once again fortunate to have the opportunity to conduct a research stay in the laboratory of Professor Craig Hawker. During this visit, I had the chance to meet many new and talented early-career researchers.
During my stay in 2024, I realized that one of the early-career researchers I had just met had trained in the laboratory of a former colleague from my earlier time at UCSB.
It was a moment that vividly reminded me of the importance and fascination of human connections in research activities.
The clear blue skies of California and the cutting-edge research environment at UCSB are, of course, highly appealing; however, it is equally attractive as a place that reminds us of the importance and fascination of human connections.
