小さな飛行機
オーストラリア東海岸の街にあるニューカッスル大学訪問後、日本大使館との打ち合わせに、首都キャンベラへ移動する。移動は小さなプロペラ機。天候は良好であったが、少し雲がある。ところによりふわふわ揺れるプロペラ機の中で、ワインをたしなむオーストラリア人達と、窓の外に広がる広大な風景が、異国の地へと私を運んで行った。

A Deep Breath at the Window to the World
A Little Plane in the Blue
After visiting the University of Newcastle on Australia’s east coast, we set off for Canberra, the nation’s capital, for a meeting at the Japanese Embassy. The journey was aboard a small propeller plane. The weather was fair, with just a few clouds drifting across the sky. From time to time the plane swayed gently, like a cradle in the air. Around me, Australian passengers sipped wine with ease. Outside the window, an endless expanse of landscape stretched out—vast and untamed—carrying me ever deeper into this land that felt at once foreign and welcoming.
