ジャンクメール？ ベトナムからの手紙
いつものようにEメールのアプリを開き，例のごとく迷惑メールボックスにもいくつかのメールが入っていることに気が付きました。いつものジャンクメールかと思いながらとりあえず1件ずつ開いていったところ，ちょっと見慣れないタイトルと体裁のメールが見つかりました。よく確認してみたところ，ポスドクの受け入れを依頼するメールで，正直なところ目を疑いました。なぜ私のところに？
内容をよく確認したら知人（他大学の研究者）からの紹介であった旨の記述がありました。子どもを対象とする介入研究なら茨城大の渡邊がいるということで案内されたようでした。差出人はベトナムの大学に勤務する研究者で，日本学術振興会が設けるASEAN諸国及びアフリカ諸国の若手研究者を対象にした留学プログラムに応募するにあたって，日本での受け入れ先を探していたようでした。
早速，彼の研究業績などを調べたところ，国際誌に何編か論文が掲載されている上にヨーロッパで博士号を取得したとのこと。素晴らしい！彼が計画した研究内容もまた興味深く，一緒に研究する機会ができたらと思い，受け入れを許可するInvitation letterを送りました。
採択されれば来年度から日本にやってきます。パクチーが苦手でベトナム料理にはあまり良い印象がありませんが，きっと他にもおいしい料理はあるはず。日本のことをたくさん教えたいし，ベトナムのことをもっと知りたいと思ったこの頃でした。

A Deep Breath at the Window to the World
Junk mail? A letter from Vietnam
As usual, I opened my email app and noticed that there were several emails in my junk mail box. Thinking they were the usual junk mail, I opened them one by one, and found an email with a title and format that I wasn't familiar with. Upon closer inspection, it was an email requesting the acceptance of a postdoctoral fellow, and to be honest, I couldn't believe my eyes. Why me?
Upon further review, I found a note stating that it was a referral from an acquaintance (a researcher at another university). It seemed that I had been recommended because I was involved in intervention research targeting children at Ibaraki University. The sender was a researcher at a university in Vietnam who was seeking a host institution in Japan to participate in a study abroad programme established by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) for young researchers from ASEAN countries and Africa.
I immediately looked into his research achievements and found that he had several papers published in international journals and had obtained a PhD in Europe. Impressive! The research he planned was also intriguing, so I decided to send an invitation letter to accept him, hoping for the opportunity to collaborate on research.
If selected, he will come to Japan next year. I’m not a fan of cilantro and don’t have a great impression of Vietnamese cuisine, but I’m sure there are other delicious dishes. I wanted to teach him about Japan and learn more about Vietnam.
