Department of Mechanical Engineering

Shaping the next-generation engineers who take initiatives for developing people- and environment-friendly machinery

The Department of Mechanical Engineering trains highly qualified engineers who can manufacture and integrate machinery into the sustainable recycling-oriented society on a comprehensive scale. Upon acquisition of essential academic skills in the first year, students proceed to the next level of study in the second and third years, taking a series of practical lectures in specialized subject areas and making sense of physics through experiment and simulation, which are crucial elements of being an engineer. The fourth year starts with a series of sessions designed to prepare students for developing communication and presentation skills, and they spend a year participating in the leading-edge research activities for a year.

Department of Biomolecular Functional Engineering

Opening up the wonders of biochemical phenomena

The Department of Biomolecular Engineering aims to cultivate researchers and engineers who can develop insight into the complicated functions of living entities and apply the underlying principles to a variety of industries. In the first and second years students learn the basic principles of chemistry, physics, and biology. The third-year curriculum is divided into applied functional chemistry and bioelectronics & bioinformatics, taking an integrative and in-depth approach to learning for specialized knowledge and skills. The department is looking for students passionate about the diverse nature of biomolecular functions and capable of applying the related principles to engineering.

Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Materials engineering is a new academic field of engineering that forms the foundation for the four strategic pillars of science and technology in Japan, including biotechnology, information technology, nanotechnology & materials science, and environmental technology. The Department of Materials Engineering is a multidisciplinary department whose mission is to promote awareness of materials science as a base for manufacturing industry in addition to nanotechnology, computer informatics, environmental analysis and remediation. As specialists and leaders in manufacturing industry, our graduates support automobile, electronics, informatics, environment, energy, and welfare industries.

Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Teaching electronic and electromagnetic technology applied for the benefit of society

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering covers a wide range of disciplines focused on controlling and taking advantage of electrons and electromagnetic waves found in the invisible realm. The curriculums designed to bridge the gap between high school education and post-secondary education help students make a smooth, seamless transition into specialized subject areas. The third-year curriculum is divided into electronic system and electrical system, where students can efficiently and effectively expand their knowledge in a small class setting. In the fourth year four students are placed under the supervision and guidance of one professor and start undertaking research for their graduation thesis.

Department of Media and Telecommunications Engineering

Today we live in a highly technological and information-oriented society characterized by a multiplicity of media channels that offer us easy and convenient access to a wide range of information through online chat, e-mail, images, and videos. This has been achieved through the integration of communications technology (transmission of information) and computer technology (management and storage of information). The realization of low-cost, high-quality communications in the future, however, calls for the development of a new communications technology. The Department of Media Communications Engineering train professional engineers who can further the information and communications technology through research and development.

The computer and the Internet are crucial elements of modern society. They form the essential building blocks of a variety of industries, including logistics, finance, and manufacturing. This is where the term "information-oriented society" stems from. In this department we provide an environment for education and research necessary to innovate or upgrade the information-oriented society to the next level. Students at the Department of Information Engineering conduct and draw on a wide range of research from all levels of evidence in order to make a contribution to the further enhancement of society. Students equip themselves with a solid academic foundation and develop professional skills and expertise through discussion, practice, and research, expanding their knowledge and reasoning to be aptly prepared for the fast-evolving field of information engineering. Those who wish to pursue information engineering are expected to demonstrate scholastic aptitude in logical thinking and persuasive communication.

Department of Urban and Civil Engineering

Cultivating engineers who can establish a secure, eco-friendly, and comfortable urban environment

What is required of today's urban environment is the integration and preservation of security, ecology, and comfort. The Department of Urban Systems Engineering is designed to provide education on the creation of a safe environment, which includes constructing, maintaining, and managing buildings and structures strong yet flexible against earthquakes and disasters. Also, students acquire skills that can be applied to the preservation of ecology in pursuit of harmonious coexistence with nature, pondering on possible solutions for soil and water pollution and global warming and evaluating what resources are available. Further, students are trained to apply theoretical perspectives in urban planning and landscape architecture design to the creation of a comfortable environment. As competent specialists in urban planning and designing our graduates are expected to integrate the three elements required of an urban environment.

Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering: Program A

Cultivating skilled engineers who can further the integration of computer and mechanical technologies

Most of our personal products are made possible by an integrative combination of computer and mechanical technologies. In this department we train passionate engineers who can develop and execute constructive solutions for various problems surrounding all of us on the basis of solid knowledge and understanding of mechatronics, designing and manufacturing, and human interface technology. In addition, the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering has implemented the night-time B course, other than the day-time A course, to provide a highly sophisticated learning environment to working students and adults.

Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering: Program B

This department has implemented the night-time B course to provide a highly sophisticated learning environment to working students and adults. The admission and tuition fees for the B course are half of the amount charged to students enrolled in the A course. The curriculums are basically the same as those of the A course, where students earn credits required for graduation after 4 years of study, and most of the lectures, except for some, are conducted at night. Students can also enroll in the A course or other specialized programs. In addition, in the beginning of the third year students may wish to take a test to transfer to other courses.
